A Middle Eastern music and bellydance jam!
All drummers, dancers and musicians are welcome to participate.
Melissa and Carmine will guide you through playing popular Belly Dance songs of the
Middle East. Open floor dancing all night, all levels of dancers welcome.
This is a community event designed to bring together dancers and musicians inspired
by Middle Eastern music. Experienced or inexperienced: all are welcome!

Carmine Guida of Djinn will teach:
FOUNDATIONS OF MIDDLE EASTERN DRUMMING
1:30- to 2:30 p.m.
In this workshop, you will learn the proper hand/finger
techniques to produce clean beautiful sounds from your
doumbek. You will learn how to play several traditional
Middle Eastern rhythms as well as how to switch between
them. This workshop is perfect for beginners or
experienced drummers who want to brush up or clean up
their technique.
PLAYING DRUM SOLOS FOR DANCERS
2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
In this workshop, you will learn new drum hits, and how
to incorporate new rhythms into an interesting solo for a
dancer (with rhythm changes and a solo). You will learn
techniques for playing a solo on your own, as well as
having other drummers accompany you.

MIDDLE EASTERN SONGS ON WESTERN INSTRUMENTS
3:30 to 5 p.m.
This Middle Eastern music workshop is perfect for any musician and drummer who is ready to try something
different! Musicians will learn the basic songs, learn basic makams, get some pointers on taksims (solos), and learn
what to do during a taksim when you aren’t the "taksimer". ALL instruments are welcome: drum, cello,
violin, electric guitar, flute, saxophone, clarinet, oboe, trumpet, tuba, banjo... Drummers and zill enthusiasts will
learn rhythm changes and accents that accompany the songs.
